Business Activity:

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is not merely the historic Main Street comprised of old buildings that were erected beginning in 1902. It is currently the 3rd largest city in Oklahoma and is a fast-growing city that has not always thrived. Broken Arrow’s story is similar to the story of our often visited and celebrated Rose District, a part of our history that has undergone a beautiful renaissance and growth, possibly the greatest to ever have taken place in our great state of Oklahoma. The Rose District is celebrated by our residents as well our neighboring communities who visit Main Street for its “small town charm.” One could compare Broken Arrow and particularly the Rose District to a scene from a happy, Hallmark movie set in the most perfect and friendly small town in America. Our hearts are rooted here, amongst buildings standing the tests of time not far from the railroad tracks that were the reason Broken Arrow was born. The Broken Arrow Police Foundation will work with the Broken Arrow Police Department and our local citizens and business owners to continue this story.

The Broken Arrow Police Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Broken Arrow, OK that aims to bring together private sector business and citizens to assist the police department to address public safety needs and crime prevention. We aim to assist the police department by providing support for community engagement, support for police officers and their families, all with a focus on helping continue the quality of living presently found in Broken Arrow. The foundation aims to build a legacy as a trusted partner within the community, a partner that brings the Police Department and community together with a shared goal of keeping Broken Arrow the safe place to live that it is at this time.

The foundation’s goals are to donate the vast majority of funds and materials raised directly to the Broken Arrow Police Department. We will accomplish this by relying on local volunteers and board members who are citizens of Broken Arrow, we will ensure they are not compensated beyond any reasonable expenses that might be incurred in attending meetings. We will aim to keep any of our expenditures low as we build the organization so that we can maximize our impact within our city. Since our organization will be a group of private sector community members, we feel that the foundation will be ideally positioned to stay away from potential local political forces and be seen as a neutral and positive force within the Broken Arrow community.

Broken Arrow is its own truly special community whose members are the absolute pillars of our town, our “railroad tracks” so to speak, and our citizens safety and well-being is truly critical. As our community rapidly continues to grow, unfortunately with that growth there could be a potential for crime growth. The Foundation will provide an avenue for special funding for all aspects of our police forces to enhance our already stellar crime prevention.

The foundation’s first goal will be to assist the Broken Arrow Police Department in raising money and bringing public awareness within the process of building a real time crime prevention center. This center is a cutting-edge crime prevention tool that will allow the police department to better deploy and use the current resources available. Other goals that the foundation will consider will run concurrently to the development of the real time crime prevention center and will include any project within the strategic plan of the Broken Arrow Police Department that has a direct and positive impact in the wellbeing of the Broken Arrow community and the officers that serve and protect them such as: supporting the new Mounted Patrol Unit, helping pay the veterinarian bills for retired K9 officers, supporting community involvement events such as the annual Spooktacular, and will also look to support the local police force by offering financial assistance support to the families and children of officers that are killed or injured in the line of duty.

The foundation is aware that the goals we are setting are ambitious and will take several years of building trust within the community and police force. We will accomplish those goals by first requesting that the Chief of Police provide us with a 1,5,10-year strategic plan for the Police Department and then explore where and how the private sector is willing and able to help. We will aim to always be a positive conduit between the community and Broken Arrow Police Department and will aim to assist the police in fostering a relationship with the citizens that will allow them to feel good about the city they live in and the way our police force operates.
